Educational arithmetic under stated assumptions, not advice
This is the standing version of the sentence you have already met under a calculator or at the foot of a tax page. It applies to every page on this site, and it is published here in the three forms the site's claims take. Last updated .
The statement, in the three forms it takes
They differ because the claim differs, not because the tone does. Each is reproduced below exactly as the pages render it.
On every calculator
This calculator is educational arithmetic, not financial, tax, or investment advice. It assumes facts about your situation it cannot know. Interest deductibility depends on your circumstances and on maintaining adequate records; consult a qualified tax professional before implementing a leveraged strategy.
Rendered under each calculator and on the calculator hub, because those pages publish arithmetic under assumptions they state.
On every tax page
These pages are educational summaries of published law, not tax advice. Deductibility depends on your circumstances and on maintaining adequate records; consult a qualified tax professional before implementing a leveraged strategy.
Rendered on every page under /tax/, because those pages summarise published law — the Act, the CRA’s interpretations, and decided cases.
Everywhere else, including here
Everything here is educational arithmetic under stated assumptions, not financial, tax, or investment advice. Interest deductibility depends on your circumstances and on maintaining adequate records; consult a qualified tax professional before implementing a leveraged strategy.
Rendered on the pages that publish neither a projection nor a summary of law, and carried in short form in the footer of every page on this site.
The two surfaces named above are the calculators and the tax pages, and the presence of the right wording on each of them is checked in this repository's test suite rather than left to an author to remember.
What ACRU computes, and what it never characterises
The line matters more here than the words around it, so it is stated plainly. ACRU computes and records. It describes the state of a record — which borrowed dollars are evidenced against which uses, which are not, and what changed when. It does not characterise your tax position, does not tell you what any figure means for a filing, and does not conclude anything about how a reviewer would treat it. Those are a qualified tax professional's work, and nothing on this site substitutes for it.
That boundary is not a caveat bolted onto the product; it is the product. What ACRU traces, and how sets out what falls inside it.
A projection is arithmetic, not a prediction
Every figure this site publishes is computed under a named assumption set that is published in full, including the effects it leaves out and the bands each projection is re-run at. Assumptions about rates, returns, and timing are inputs, not expectations: change one and the figure changes. Nothing here is a representation that any outcome will be achieved, and no page on this site promises a return, a refund, or a saving.
This is Canadian material
Everything here describes Canadian federal tax law and Canadian lending products. The surrounding search space is overwhelmingly American, and US interest rules are different in ways that matter — treating a page here as US material would be an error. Provincial rates and rules vary within Canada as well, and a page that does not name a province is describing the federal position.
Pages here cite and link material published by others — the CRA, the Justice Laws site, CanLII, and lenders' own product documentation. Those documents are theirs and are quoted as published; where a citation and this site ever disagree, the primary source governs.
