The published, versioned methodology behind every page here
The rules in force
Version v1.1, effective and last reviewed . Each rule below is stated in full, with what it costs us, on the v1.1 release page — the permanent address to cite.
- Everything here is Canadian
- Three classes of source, each cited to its own authority
- Every published figure comes from one engine
- A worked tax example is somebody else’s published example
- Every projection is priced against not doing it
- What is not modelled is listed, not omitted
- The two dominant assumptions are re-run, and the range is published
- This site computes; it does not pronounce
- Every page stamps what produced it
- A URL does not change, and a correction is a version
The assumption sets
Every figure this site publishes is computed under a named assumption set, and those sets are published in full rather than described: compounding conventions, refund timing, the fair no-strategy baseline, the effects deliberately left out, and the bands each projection is re-run at. The assumption sets are recorded here, rendered from the same objects the engine computes with, so the stated method and the arithmetic cannot drift apart.
What this document covers
This document covers how this website is sourced, computed, and published. The platform’s tax-interpretation methodology — the rules that govern how the ledger attributes interest for a customer, and the counsel review behind them — is a separate document that is not published here. Nothing on this site reproduces it or states a position from it.
The other half of that boundary — what these pages will never say, whatever the methodology version — is stated in the standing disclaimer, which applies to every page on this site.
Changelog
Any change to how this site sources, computes, or bounds what it publishes is a version bump recorded here. Correcting a figure or a citation on a page updates that page's date instead.
Version v1.1 —
- First published version. The rules were already in force across the site and enforced in CI — the citation discipline, the single-engine rule, the fair baseline, the published not-modelled list, and the footer stamp — and this is where they become a document that can be cited rather than a set of properties a reader has to infer.
- Adds the permanent versioned URL, so a citation to this version stays valid after a later one supersedes it.
- Adds the published assumption-set record, rendered from the shipped assumption sets themselves rather than restated in prose.
